The Toronto Marlies defeated the Belleville Senators 4-3 in a shootout on Saturday night. The Marlies improve to 4-1-2-0 on the season, and take home 3 of 4 points in Belleville this weekend.
In the first period, the visitors got on the board early thanks to a goal from Max Ellis just 1:40 into the frame. Belleville quickly responded, tallying three goals in the opening frame to take a 3-1 lead into the 1st intermission.
In the second period, Alex Steeves continued his point streak, scoring at 3:31 to get the visitors within one. In the third period, Steeves tallied another at 1:59 to tie the game at three.
After 60 minutes of play, the score remained 3-3 so overtime was needed. The extra frame didn’t solve anything so the game went to a shootout. Max Ellis scored the shootout winner for the Marlies, while Keith Petruzzelli stood tall, stopping 31 of the 34 shots he faced in the game, and making the winning stop in the shootout.
The Marlies continue their Royal Road Trip on November 3rd and 4th as they head to Laval for two straight. Puck drop is at 7:00pm on AHLTV.
