The Toronto Marlies announced today that the hockey club has signed forward Isaac Johnson to a one-year AHL contract. He has been assigned to the Newfoundland Growlers (ECHL).
Johnson, 24, split this past season between the Manitoba Moose (AHL) and Newfoundland. He recorded 45 points (18 goals, 27 assists) through 36 games with the Growlers and registered 16 points (6 goals, 19 assists) in 15 playoff games. The Andover, Minnesota native had one goal and one assist in 11 games with the Moose.
The Toronto Marlies are the primary development program for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Since 2005, 148 players have appeared in regular season games at both the NHL and AHL levels. The current Maple Leafs roster features six players who have dressed for both the Maple Leafs and Marlies – Pontus Holmberg, William Lagesson, Timothy Liljegren, William Nylander, Morgan Rielly and Joseph Woll.
