Toronto Marlies Fall To Milwaukee Admirals In Midweek Matchup

March 22, 2023

The Toronto Marlies fell 2-1 in a shootout to the Milwaukee Admirals on Wednesday night in their final matchup of the regular season.

In the opening period, it was the visitors who got on the board first. Joakim Kemell scored at 8:11 in the frame to give Milwaukee the early 1-0 lead.

In the second, Toronto responded with a power-play goal by William Villeneuve at 6:19 to tie the game at one apiece.

In the third, both teams exchanged chances, but neither were able to convert. After 5 minutes of overtime the score remained the same so a shootout was needed. In the shootout, Zach Samford scored the lone goal for the Admirals to send Milwaukee home with the victory.

POSTGAME QUOTES

HEAD COACH GREG MOORE

On tonight’s game:
I was really thrilled with the team’s response to last weekend. I was really proud of the group for how hard they worked, how they competed, how physical they were. This was a really strong process for them today and Milwaukee’s a really good team, they’re one of the top teams in the American League. We knew it was going to be a hard game and I was really proud of how the guys fought and competed for 60 minutes.

On special teams:

I thought our power play was great today, got a lot of really good looks and chances. Obviously one big goal that got us some momentum in the game and was the goal that at least got us the point tonight. It was a great response from those PK units as well and I definitely liked the puck movement and the execution of the game plan, it was really good.
