International hockey comes to Ricoh Coliseum as the Toronto Marlies welcome Färjestad BK in exhibition action today at 3pm.
Färjestad is in town as part of this year’s AHL All-Star Festivities. This past week, they took on the AHL All-Stars in the skills competition and All-Star Classic. The Swedish team fell to the All-Stars 7-2 on Wednesday evening in St. John’s at the Mile One Centre and will look for a more favourable result as they take on the Toronto Marlies. Considered one of the top professional hockey franchises in Sweden, Färjestad currently sits in 8th place in the Swedish Hockey League. They are captained by Rickard Wallin, who spent three seasons playing in the Minnesota Wild organization, including time with the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League. Wallin also played for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2009-2010 before returning to Sweden.
The Marlies last hit the ice on Sunday, February 9th in a 4-3 loss to the Hamilton Bulldogs before taking a few days off for the All-Star Break. T.J. Brennan represented the Marlies during the All-Star festivities where he participated in the hardest shot contest, registering over 100 mph on all three attempts and scoring a beautiful goal as part of the breakaway challenge.
Puck drop is at 3pm ET, catch all of the action on LeafsTV and AHL Live. Don’t forget to follow the official Marlies Twitter account (@TorontoMarlies) and join us for the #MarliesLive live chat. We’ll be looking for the #MarliesLive Tweet of the Night and the winner will take home a pair of House of Marley headphones. There’s just a few rules and regs you need to know about so read them here.
